I had a 2000 Discovery II and I loved it. It did eat a shit load of gas but would go anywhere i took it when camping. The defender is by far my favorite but they are hard to find around here. My wife on the other hand hated it because the back seat is very hard to get the kids in and out of. the bottom of the door is very small and you almost always get dirt from the tire on your pants. the back door also doesn't open up or half and half like the explorer or most SUVs ...it opens Left to right ..like a house door .. so you can't carry anything that hangs out the back .. the glass in the back doesn't open either. over all it held up very well but didn't fill all my SUV needs .. I have to say that I'm happier with my Honda Pilot.
