It's just a bunch of hype over the roots issue.. Some think that because some ancestors from a century ago lived here, they are closely connected, so they feel some need to identify with it..

This place is a melting pot.. Wouldn't it be fun if everyone felt this indentity need?

I can jump my ass up and say I'm Cherokee.. without the need to follow it with American.. There was no 'America' when my decendants lived here. Ohh.. but the pc term is 'Native-American'..
You won't hear the tribes demanding to be referred to by that identity.. Gotta love how the gov't tags the folks in this land. "Hispanic" is another gov't derived term...

Kinda makes this African-American thing a joke at best..
