I would say the onlt way to do well is to devote full time hours to doing this. If you're working more than full time at other jobs it will be very hard to get anywhere unless of course you can find a full time job which allows you to work on this most of the time.

Anyone doing this full time is simply moving farther and faster along the learning curve and you'll simply get left behind.
