Yeah dude, you need two mates to make roomates, so each mate get's one "M" in the word... That's why it's roo-mmmmmmmmm-ate, not just roomate, to exaggerate the sound. Sharing the double "O" (r-oo-mate) is not enough to make the word sound good.
