Here is my new theory:
Pathfinder really did have a stroke, but he survived. When he woke up from his short coma, he had terrible amnesia. "Mommy" (formerly his wife) saw this as an opportunity to get out of her loveless marriage, so she completely reprogrammed him with the bullshit story he's been spewing here. Included in the reprogramming was his love for GFY. Why? Because every minute the old man spends here is one less minute she has to spend with him. Can you blame her?
Of course, that's just my theory.
