Curious where you read that? I had heard that they were thinking of allowing advertising on the upgraded accounts for "trusted" bloggers bla bla.
At the moment I use them strictly for feeder blogs with very discrete links, although I did dabble with AdSense on them for a while when you could put it in the title field but I chickened out when I heard them canceling for that.
