Sorry for the delay in response... The answer is "No, they don't have to be held at Moniker", but realize that the process for auction is that the name is auctioned off, the payment is made for the name, and we hold that payment in an escrow account until the transfer is confirmed... so if the domain name is already at Moniker, we can do a push from one account to the other, so that the complete process is finished much more quickly, no waiting for the releasing registrar to get it's act together...
