I'm surprised no one has brought up bill 101 in here yet.
For those that don't know, the political party in QB actually passed a law making it illegal to advertise your products or services (among other things) unless it was in french. English is allowed, but in small percentages.

Now why would you ask would a government need to do such a thing? To protect it's language. French was dying out, the people were choosing english and if french died, how could the political parties use their language as justification for unique and preferential status in canada?
