One good way to do it ..
Ingredients:
1 small Onion, chopped, pared and cut into 1" pieces
2 tablespoons Oil
1 cup Coconut Milk
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
2 medium size Yams or sweet potatoes
1/4 teaspoon Ground cloves

In 10-inch skillet over medium heat, cook and stir onion in oil until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.

Or the best way ...
Get some yams from Vons, a shit load of brown sugar and butter and boil em up together.
