Without breaking a sweat I beat the record senior time, as a junior, for my school's annual cross country race, so I guess I might have been a runner if I enjoyed sport more.
I
wish I had been a good writer. For a couple of years I was one of the most published writers in Israel, with columns every week in three of the main dailies (6+ pages in one) and occasional pieces in the other two, plus several long articles each month in two magazines and a couple of weeklies, and one-offs in everything from an archaeology publication to the El-Al inflight magazine. I also wrote a book which was a best-seller for a couple of years and is still in print 20 years later.
But it was all blatantly commercial stuff, about as far as possible from my real interest: politics and economics. The closest I have got to anything remotely serious in the past 30-odd years has been a few science-fiction short stories
