Other companies offer contests where they award every 100th post in the thread with 100$ or every 50th post with 50$. I hope you can follow so far.
Those contests run until 5000 or even 10000 or more posts are made, depending on the particular rules of that contest and the amount of money the sponsor is willing to invest in the contest.

If 10000 posts can be made and every 100th one gets 100$ the sponsor needs to pay out 10,000 $ to the winners.

Vod went for the 1$ per post method where anybody could post a maximum of 500 posts but they did not mention the total of posts that could be made so in theory they could have closed down the thread whenever they felt their promo budget was reached. So if they let the thread run until 10,000 posts were made in total they would have had to pay out the exact same amount as in a 10,000 posts contest where every 100th post gets rewarded with 100$.

Summary:

10,000 posts devided by 100$ for every 100th post=10000$

10,000 posts devided by 1$ per post = 10000$

*If xod had 15000 or even 20000$ to spend they could have allowed 15 or 20K posts to be made, that would be totally up to them and their budget.

I hope I made the calculations more than clear enough for you to understand. I would feel sorry for you if you wouldn't have such a big mouth.
