i agree with you i am sure both sides do it just as much. it is human nature to want something you cannot have.
but for me i am quite different when someone breaks up with me or we break up i seriously do not want to have anything to do with them, not because i hate them or would not be polite if i saw them just i feel when you break up that is it, there should be no in between, no "just friends" or you never really move on.
