Obviously, he was ordered to do this so that all the big US Sunday morning news shows would have time to get their stories ready.

Talk about a November surprise. If the media shows images of mass celebrations in Iraq, it'll make people feel good about the war.... and vote Republican.

However it could backfire if there is violence.
You remember the pandering to media in the Somalia adventure with a landing timed to match US media and the showing of some unwitting soldier land with a flag on the beach in Somalia - the lighting of course, perfect :1lorglaugh

JUst been monitoring a number of media stations and, kinda surprising so far, that every one, without exception, has delivered what they consider were the views of the people and stated one hell of a lot of US and UK criticism at the invasion and the ongoing failure of operations since that time. It appears that Saddam is not their major priority, - more a concern over the fuckups of their country.

There are also growing issues which appear to have come out of the trial of Saddam, in that there are crimes being committed by US contractors and questions being asked as to why these people are not on trial with Saddam.

Seriously doubt there is going to be any reduction in the violence in that region - but a danger of an escalation - or possible civil war.
