 ARIN is American Registry of Internet Numbers (i.e. IP addresses, those pesky dotted quad numbers you see from time to time)
 
 ICANN is the Internet Corporation for Assigned **NAMES** and Numbers.
 
 which do you think controls which?  ARIN just delegates IP space for the Americas.
