Casting the first stone & 20k
Each night I make a wish, a wish that is nearly always the same. I ask that some how some way we as a species could go through a global enlightenment of sorts. Just wake up and things would start to change. A tolerance of others beliefs, traditions, thoughts, preferences, and differences would begin. A child's wish I suppose, spawned from innocence and the desire for tolerance of others.
Why must we be so quick to judge what is different, even if it is uncomfortable or possibly unthinkable to one of us? Why does it bother us so what others do amongst themselves?
Is it that we may have to bare witness to it through visual or other means, is it because we may feel uncomfortable with what others hold dear. Do we desire conformity so much that no one person should be allowed to express something that the rest of us feel is out of our personal realm of what it normal?
Do you prejudge a person due to them having body alteration while the majority does not, is it aborrhent that one may eat cat instead of cow, is it more acceptable if one eats and drinks symbolic flesh and blood of a human than if one sacrifices farm animals, do you feel that if ones belief in science is superior compared to one believes in something else that has no effect on you, is dieing by choice instead of time wrong, is it more tolerable to you to have a child pawned off to nannies and schools for its raising or can tradition allow to have the child's face scarred after nursing?
I have seen more and more of a lack of tolerance and intervention into what others do. It seems everyone feels they know what is best for everyone else as long as nobody turns the mirror on what they themselves are doing.
I can understand and appreciate if someone takes a moral stance on their own. If and only if it effects them and not others. Who are any of us to set what is right and what is wrong for others?
There you have it, my 20,000th post on this board. Now feel free to ignore and not read everything I just have wrote and quickly post your obligatory congrats and signature view posts.
