I've written a few tgp scripts in my time. I have dabbled with getting galleries into sub-categories like that and to be honest it's a huge pain in the ass. Submitters are too stupid to be trusted to submit their galleries to the appropriate categories. Spidering kinda works but you end up with 1 gallery appearing in many, many categories (depending on its description). Many of those subcategories are completely inappropriate.
The only way to do it reliably is to manually assign galleries to categories which takes a massive amount of time, especially when you consider the number of galleries you'd need in your database to populate the site. On my little network of sites I just settled with separating galleries by category and then again by pics/vids. That seemed to work well for me. Even with 1,100,000+ (yes, 1.1 million) galleries in my database there are some categories that are relatively empty. With subcategories the problem would be much worse.
