1. It is unlikely that most people will want to change the constitution. Many Americans see the constitution as a document close to the bible in terms of holiness. Changes in the constitution only stand a chance if they are disguised as something else.
2. It is not hypocrisy to want to change part of something while professing to stand for that something as a whole. The constitution is part of what makes America America, but so are things like the history of America, its geography, Americans themselves, their habits and traditions, etc.
It is perfectly possible to be patriotic, yet abhor parts of the constitution.
