I rememebr the moment I realized I was hooked on grindcore....it started with Napalm Death "Scum" through their masterpiece "Harmony Corruption" and of course onto Obituary, Deicide (the evilest, loudest, fastest most demonic band in the world ;)) Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, and on and on through the growling grunting tortured throats of bands like Sore Throat and Godflesh.
I admit the music is never going to be commercially successful and I like the fact that they'll never recieve notable radio or MTV play (although they actually did get some play on Headbanger's Ball a long time ago (just after Harmony Corruption came out) and the UNLV station used to have Grindcore Hour at midnight on Wednesdays and of course Napalam Death got mucho play there ;) They even appeared on Beavis and Butthead once......
If anyone has ever seen the television version of Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, they show an extended scene of him jamming with Cannibal Corpse
I remembr watching that movie in the theater and being the only one going "fuck yeah!" when I saew Cannibal Corpse in the movie (and their love ballad Hammer Smashed face ;)). Jim carrey once mentioned on the Arsenio Hall Show that he was a fan of Napalm Death.
Napalm Death was even featured on the first Mortal Kombat soundtrack....hmmm, maybe they will get a little commercial success (if they can keep barney around long enough ;))
