The Democrats clearly have the bigger names (and I still think Al Gore will throw his hat in also). The only chance the Republicans have is if they run McCain, and true Republican supporters don't like him. So if he isn't making it out of the primaries, who else is left? Certainly nobody who is President material.

It's far too early to be making judgements like that. In all likelihood they'll grab a Republican governor from a southern state and throw him up there. Governors always do well because they have no senate voting record that the opponent can pick apart. Also, McCain or Condi Rice could make a run, which would be pretty interesting.
