Spent a day driving around (Jeep rental for $50/day) the island while there on a cruise. The south was interesting; went through a couple of small towns but I wouldn't say anything is a "must see" down there and I think it was only a 30 minute drive. Going north was more interesting as there were lots of white sand beaches that were beautiful, There is a main beach where all the big hotels and package tourists...were. You can valet park your car at one of the big resorts and just go to the back and check it out, swim...but I prefered the more secluded beach further north near a big lighthouse. We took the jeep off road near there on the sand dunes. Tried to cruise through neighbourhoods and check out how people live...Downtown was interesting and active but VERY touristy near where the cruise ships dock.
