I'm on a similar diet, I don't order side dishes anymore, and only eat the main "meat" course of the meal, and only eat until I'm satisfied. I stop before I get "full".
I've also been eating green vegetables, and fruit. I have also been drinking lots of water.
I've lost like 15lbs in the past 2 weeks. I was at 180lbs wearing just my boxers, now I'm down to 165lbs fully clothed.
So, yeah, it works great. Just try to stay away from "grain" products, and you'll be fine.
