Opera and Google "spyware"...

So I was doing some testing of someones search engine code and in my trace logs I saw something strange. Whenever I would do a search on their site, shortly afterwards there'd be a duplicate seach but from a different IP. Turns out that the IP was googlebot.

I did some searching on the net and found that the older versions of Opera that had the ads, would run adsense and so it was sending info to google and would cause googlebot to show up. I had sort of noticed that before as googlebot would often show up to my sites quickly (I mainly surf with Opera). But I'm using V9.01 and it doesn't have ads. And I'm fairly certain googlebot doesn't hit my sites quickly like it did before although I haven't tested this out.

So does anyone know what Opera/Google are doing now? Could it be they're only looking for searches being performed and crawl those? If there's no ads in Opera 9, then why is info still being sent to google?
