That is about the only true thing you wrote.
It is much easier and more profitable to squeeze a restaurant owner for protection money than to run a restaurant. Does that make the guy running a protection racket smart and therefore the restaurant owners should approve of him, regretting their own stupidity in working harder for less money.
According to your argument that is exactly how they should feel. You may deny that and say we are not discussing things which are illegal, but the point is exactly the same. An industry consists of businesses which exist to create and serve a customer base. It attracts people who provide products and services to help the industry function (better). And unfortunately it also attracts predators: those who provide nothing whatever except a way for themselves to make money from other peoples' labor, passing on a few crumbs to those who help them. The practical effect is exactly the same, whether their activities are legal or not.
