Yes they do. Though that sort of thing can depends on how strictness of the individual family. The teacher ran to a home nearby that wasn't Amish. They don't totally isolate themselves and do often work in the larger community selling their goods, etc. For example, if you go to reading Terminal Market in Philly you will find stalls run by the Amish selling goods. Mennoites are more likely to do that but the Amish do it too. Also, with not all the homes in those areas being Amish the kids will know some of the non-Amish kids even if they don't really play with them.

Lancaster is a very beautiful part of the country. Largely because of how well the Amish and strict Mennonite families keep the land.
