If you are with a large well known bank and you are starting to sock away some bucks you need to get hooked up with their private banking department to get first class treatment and not have to deal with the teller bullshit.
In LA, we used to use First LA Bank. They were the best and focused on the entertainment industry so they were cool to deal with and used to people walking in to deposit 6 and 7 figure checks. We had some big 900 number checks and they would give us next day clearance on them, though I imagine since they were from Sprint and AT&T, they knew they would clear.
Actually had one bank in LA, turn me down for opening an account because of the adult entertainment association. I handed the new accounts manager a $60,000.00 check to open with. She started asking what I did for a living since I was in my early 30's and that's a big number for an initial deposit at that age, and I decided not to hide my occupation and said I was in the phone sex business. She must have been a real religious zeolot cause she gave me the nastiest look of discust and tossed me back the $60K check and said I'm sorry we don't do business with pimps and pornographers. Of course I promptly stood up and told her to GFY and walked out giving her the finger.
B of A, I've used on and off and you're just a number there unless you've got a whale account in the 8 figure range.
In Florida, I've been with First Union which is good or bad depending on the branch and just got acquired by Wachovia, so I don't know what that'll be like.
You can operate pretty well outside the banking industry now. It costs a bit, but you don't have the bullshit to deal with and you know exactly where your money is at all times.
I really recommend small banks over big ones. You can really stand out and get the royal treatment if you have some bucks.
