Experiences with bartering services with mainstream service companies?
Last night I was talking to some people and realized that a lot of companies out there still don't have sites online for various reasons. Technical ability, money, accessibility, etc. Some of the particular companies I had in mind were the smaller one-two person operation service companies... house cleaning, handy work, yard work, etc. A lot of these smaller companies don't really have the extra money to invest in a website, especially with all of the "scams" out there, so I got thinking about bartering services.
For example, build a website for a house cleaning lady in exchange for her cleaning your house once a month. Her cleaning services are worth anywhere between $80-200 (depending on location and size), designing services are worth a considerable amount more but throughout the course of the year the builder would be easily paid back through her services. She stops cleaning the house, the sites plug gets pulled.
I can see quite a few problems that could pop up with this but it could be worthwhile under the right circumstances. Anyone do this in the past or currently? Experiences?
