Had something similar happen when I went to see a friend in an inner city suburb, and came out to an empty street at about 4am... I didn't realise until the next day because I have keyless entry. Looks like the guy shoved a screwdriver INTO the lock, trying to turn it. Not sure what he would have accomplished as the engine is immobilised unless unlocked with the remote.
Sucks that your door was damaged, that's gonna cost a lot more than a new barrel.
