I can't see that getting as big as tats and regular piercings. You've got to be hard-fucking-core to permanently alter your body that way. That is one sub-culture that won't make it to mainstream--which is of course the point. The fucking pain must be incredible.
Don't see it much in LA. More common in Santa Cruz and Bay Area.
