last week when i first got the bike i took it out and it put fear in me for the first time in years ..

I was just riding it around the block but way different then i expected. after the first turn I realized that it was a lot of Hot steel and I could really get hurt if I wasn't careful ...
So after a few days of putting it off ( I'm sure out of fear .. I was just nerves ) I took it out again today. the first time around i was afraid of the bike jumping away and was losing track on my gears .. just not focused and nervous .. stalled it a few times going into first ( I was giving it to much gas) after talking to a few guys that ride .. i realized that i don't really have to gas it till it starts to roll a bit .. I also only stuck to 1st and 2nd gear .. took it slow and was able to keep track of the gears easy .. turns were much better and i had a lot of fun .. The fear will always be there but i guess that's good .. But I feel much better about riding it now and I'll take the safety course.
The straight bars probably aren't the best to learn on but they feel OK ..
here's a pic .. It's a 99 Honda shadow 600 .. the seat was cut down ...straight pipes sound great and was painted flat black .... runs great and i got it for less the $1k so i won't feel bad if i drop it.
