Here in Holland we dont need to carry a gun because my neighbour doesnt have one either and the chances of someone entering your house with a gun is basically 0.

i got car jacked by 5 dudes....& beaten for over 5 minutes....kicked in the head repeatedly, & left for dead (they thought i was dead)
i'm lucky i didn't get killed....but it will never happen again....because i carry enough ammo to take out 5 people
