If it's a cool mill in Maui, what do you think the same house would go for in a less popular area..?? I know it's a general question but I'm just trying to get a feel of the cost of living there more than anything, I guess..

It's hard to say.... properties vary so much here because of proximity to the ocean.... if you buy in Kahului, which is pretty much the hub here... that's where you go when you gotta go to the store.... it's cheaper... cuz it sucks.
but even a one bedroom condo on the 9th floor ON the beach down here can cost upwards of $750k...... so, it really depends on how close you are to the water, and whether you're in Kihei (the working mans town where I live now), or in Wailea... luxury resort world, where we're going....
Lahaina is reasonable, but Ka'anapali up the road is outrageous again because from Ka'anapail up through Kapalua is all luxury again.....
Living here is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination..... it CAN be.... but I wouldn't want to live that way. This will be the most rent I've ever paid anywhere.... topping even Silicon Valley with my one bedroom condo for $1537 a month..... this is more than double that, but well worth it.
