When I was 17 I went to the gym every other day to workout with my father and one of his friends. They would always be talking about investments and the stock market. Well, there was this guy who was always there working out on the same days. A few times he tried to get my pop and his friend to put 10 grand into his new pizza store, because he was wanting to start franchising. He owned a little pizza place that was basically in a closet. Anyway I remember my father saying "haven't you ever heard of Domino's? You can't compete with that." Little did my father know that this guy would build that into freakin' papa johns!
Talk about missed opportunity.
As a side note, Papa John's pizza is okay today. But back in '85 when he started it was really the best pizza around, and I imagine why he grew so fast. Today it's nothing like it was then.
