It'll always show the last ref.
Now, if you're doing something zany with frames that load offsite shit, you're going to have the click from the active frame source.
You can always fake it with stuffing the ref in a GET request or something, then pass that on so it knows where the initial click came from. I've seen JavaScript that does similar things, but short of spoofing the referrer on the client side, you're always going to get where they came from on the last active page.
