Yes, there are consequences - maybe the kids will get ridiculed. And if Daddy is a soldier he might come home in a body bag, does that mean he shouldn't have kids at all? Or if Mommy is a teacher at the kid's school, kid might get beat up when Mommy fails the school bully so maybe Mommy shouldn't have had kids in the first place??
