This is not true! You also had a guy on the moon. I guess it was pretty exciting for him. Uhm, and they brought some rocks from the moon. Hmmm, what else ... teflon! Also don't forget these cool things that rotate you up to multitudes of g and make you vomit.
There's a nice essay called "What you can see and what you can't see." It's about how people only see what the government does with the money it gets. Like building schools and housing, but you don't see (and you never will) what else could have been done with that money. Usually private money is put to better use than government money. At least in general, and if not it's none of your business anyway, because it's not your money.
