14-Hour Traffic Jam Forces Drivers to Sleep in Their Cars

A military vehicle hauling an excavator clipped a walking bridge over Hawaii's H-1 freeway, causing the worst traffic jam in the state's history, shutting down the road for 14 hours. Some stuck in the jam either abandonded their car or slept in them.
Crews worked through the night to remove the concrete bridge before they reopened the road.
Governer Linda Lingle said "It was a massive disruption in people's lives yesterday afternoon and long into the evening and we regret that, but the decision was made on safety and we think it was a correct decision."
