I was working in a news station here in Phoenix and that is definitely a day I will never forget. I remember I came out of my edit bay after the 1st plane had already hit and everyone was standing around glued to the TV and they told me what happened. I started watchibng with them and by that time we had cut into CNN coverage because we were the affiliate in town. Shortly after that the second plane hit and it was one of the strangest feelings actually seeing that happen.
One of the first things that popped in my head after the second plane hit was that they were going to hit Washington. Then the reports of the other 2 planes came in and the day just got crazier and crazier. Each time they would show another new angle or another new clip of either the planes hitting or the buildings collapsing you couldn't help but almost get like a knot in your stomach.
When you work in news and something big like that happens you usually make what's called a mini stock, which is a tape that has all the key footage on it in case you need to reference that event in the future. Needless to say I have seen all that footage many more times than I care to remember and it still amazes how something like that can happen. I still get chills too whenever I see a movie filmed before that day that shows shots of the WTC. It's just one of those things you just wish never happened...
