I think there was something called a "thermite reation" which is where the combonation of steel and aluminum will actually burn at a temp close to that of the sun. It is a common and well known reaction
All that is needed for this "thermite" to burn is steel, aluminum, and a heat source high enough to start the reaction (jet fuel) I've read some articles about this, if you search on thermite 911 on google, you'll find it too..
