Not just in the south!
"Dear Auntie Kate:
Do you have any information on the legalities
of cousin marriages in Canada, particularly in the province of
Ontario? We know of several cousin marriages in our community so
I would assume it is legal, yet I'm having trouble finding
specific information on this topic for Ontario. I am planning to
marry my cousin, so you can appreciate my interest in this topic.
Thank-you

Dear C,
For some reason, your letter makes me think that you are living in a
Hutterite community, perhaps outside of Waterloo, Ontario? I'm just
guessing dear. Those close religionsly driven groups have such wonderful
values, discipline and strength of character. I also understand that
because of the closed nature of their communities, often cousins do marry.
I believe that it is legal to marry your cousin anywhere in Canada. You can
find out for sure by simply calling the Registrar General of Ontario at
1-800-461-2156 and asking. I looked that up on the internet! Aren't I a hip
old babe sometimes?
Your
Aunt Kate "
