The problem with Chinese traffic is not that it doesn't convert, it's that once you get a site that they are interested in the amount of problems you have to deal with in terms of stolen content and server attacks dwarfs any profits you might make.
Go to the local nightmarket- it's not exactly a culture that believes in intellectual property. Once there is a really hot site that a lot of Chinese want to get into don't expect cash- expect every Chinese script kiddie on the continent to go to town on your server. If any actually pay it will only be long enough to rip down the whole site and burn it to CD for all their friends- where shortly thereafter it will be found for sale at all the local computer markets (this happened to me).
Yes, Chinese traffic will convert but there is just so much free and stolen content available to them that the potential number of paying customers is fairly low and the fraud rate really high. The better your conversion gets the more server attacks and stolen content issues you will have to deal with. These days I just banned all of Korea and China from my servers. It cost me a couple of bucks the first few months but in terms of reduced server load on the anti-hacking scripts and reduced infringement issues I saved a lot of money in the long term. Maybe in a few more months I'll give them another go but right now unless you are totally dedicated to managing it Chinese traffic is just not worth the hassles.
