Sorry to hear that, but if the cat was in the street, you probably couldnt sue her. I wasn't there, so I dont know if she swerved to hit it, or wasn't paying attention or what.
Honestly, don't let pets out into streets. Ever. Too dangerous. People don't hit animals intentionally. When it happens it's probably unavoidable. No one is anticipating a small animal to run into the street.
