A car is one of the worst ways to spend money on. it's fun for a cople weeks / months then it just become normal. I rent nice rentals a month at a time and the "new" factor is there and I enjoy them, beat them and bring them back.
The rest of the time I take a cab.

Car is not a money investment.
You also spend money when you go out. But what for? Do you spend the money to make money? No. Just to have fun. Just like some people love to drive, its their hobby. If you don't think the same, don't do it. But just because some people do it, it doesn't mean its wrong. I don't see anything bad on people who own a 2 bedroom apartment and drive a good car. Its their money and life is short. Everyone doesn't want to do only the things our parents told us to do, some want to enjoy their money, too.
