Totally cool place to chill out in the "real Costa Rica" and could hardly be a better place to bring up kids (tho check the education locally).
Sure.. used to sell plots at $15K (and more or less, depending on the volume), but that has changed a lot and land on the Pacific side is increasing 50%/year now (has been for a few years) and more likely to be around $100/sq meter now.. depending. If you seriously are thinking of that - move in asap and grab a patch, - it's still increasing at 50%/annually and safe to say that will continue for the next 4-5 years. A no-brainer
Construction costs vary, using local materials and going for the "rustic look" - around $25-35/sq ft. For a home constructed to North American standards - anywhere between $55-$65/sq ft. Construction generally is an utter pain in the ass and helpful if you have good contacts in govt and local council.
