as a coder who get royalties from code i have written in the past. Most residual contracts create an insentive for you to jump ship not the reverse. Think about if develop something for company a and they are good at marketing it, i can step away go work develop a non-competing code base for someone else and make more money. Plus i am not putting all my eggs into on basket (if the original company goes out of business or trys to screw me on royalties i have other revenue streams to live off or better yet to pay for the lawyers to sue their ass).
