I guess "a group of Jews" is the proper terminology, but think about the context that that sentence would come in. It's rarely positive.

"There are a bunch of Jews in that neighborhood"
"That's a group of Jews across the street"
"That group of Jews does blah blah blah"

I don't think the word "Jews" alone is offensive, its usually the context that ignorant people use it in.
