no it is not fucked up, it is best 5 cards,
that is what you get for calling with crap hands, the any 5 card rule should make you think twice about what cards you play with.
that is why hold em takes alot of skill anyone could be like "o i have 3 of a kind i am set" but it takes a pro to realise when you are beaten even with what seems the best hand.
