Airlines to Ban Laptops, Cells, PDAs, Watches, Anything With Batteries

Experts: Air security focuses on past threats
Laptops, cell phones and watches pose potential danger

(AP) -- The next terrorist attack could be carried out by airline passengers who hide bomb ingredients in hair gel or baby milk bottles and assemble their weapon in a locked restroom, security experts warn.

The announcement Thursday of a foiled plot to blow up jetliners flying from London to the U.S. using explosives hidden in hand luggage could be the opening of a new chapter in air travel, they said: hours-long security checks, visual inspections of prescription drugs, bans on everyday items.

Bomb experts and troubleshooters for airline security interviewed by The Associated Press said mobile phones, computers, wrist watches or anything else with a battery should be prohibited from flights.

So if they ban all that, what will you do on the plane? Most business people NEED thier laptop computers on the flight. The way I read this, it wont even be allowed in your checked luggage. And if it was, will the airlines start taking responsibility for damage thereto? If its not, how does your lappy get back from its destination, or get to it? FedEx it to arrive before you? Oh, you could throw in your cell, wrist watch and your PDA because those'll all be prohibited too. Most flights dont even have an in-flight movie. You could always read a book. Until they ban that because you might be able to hit someone over the head with it.

Dosent there come a point where we should just throw in the towel, ground all of the flights permenantly and admit that there is no way to secure an airliner 100% without making air travel itself pointless?

I swear, security in this country is a joke. Where is that quote when I need it? Those who are willing to trade a little temporary security for liberty deserve neither.
