for me, it was weird. they took Alexander... the irish guy wiht the accent and dressed him up like a miami pimp. he had few speaking parts more than one line i suspect because of his accent. this was part of what destroyed it as a reflection of the series. The character in the series had an attitude that can't come across when the character doesn't speak. also, all the other touches... he had the cool ferrari back when few even knew what a daytona spider was.. the boat, the aligator etc etc... there was a whole package there, that the character in the movie didn't have. its that whole package that shapes the character and causes you to like him.
the rest of the crew was absent in the movie that was in the series... the serious/mysterious boss (olmos), the other police (they were there... but there was nothing special about them), izzy etc etc etc.... all these things that gave the series its own unique flavor and style... not to mention the music of the serious which was also very unique for the time.
if you watched the series, the movie leaves you sitting there the whole time asking "uhmm... wait a second, is that supposed to be...."
the movie was just a couple guys running around on a boat, shooting at shit.
it wasn't real believable to me that he got with the hardcore, "i'd rather kill you before i'll say good morning to you" japanese chick and broke her down in an afternoon and got her to fall in love with him as an integral part of the plot to "infiltrate" the most successful drug empire on the planet. it was just real phony and rushed.
it was weird that they went to have lunch in cuba. i was sitting there thinking "what the fuck... can this really happen"
i could go on and on forever.
it was worth watching... but it was a terrible dissapointment if its going to be compared to a series which was way ahead of its time, had a very unique style/flavor that was totally absent in the movie and a unique cast of characters which were absent from the movie
aryan nations guys running a highly sophisticated drug operation? a bunch of inbred trailer trash... with sophisticated weapons, surveillence, intel capabilities getting the respect of the worlds largest drug smuggling operations? had moles inside the FBI, feeding them information adn intelligence? didn't buy that either.
