got a new notebook (if pics above don't load, blame the people I hotlink from, Im lazy to take pics of mine, it looks the same anyway)
Model:
Toshiba Satellite P100-275
Intel core duo 1.6ghz x 2
1.5gb ram
80gb hdd 5400rpm
17" screen, 1440x900
onboard graphics
------------------
battery life approx 3h

Now to the issue at hand. Stay away from "Gaming" laptops with dedicated graphics cards. My previous laptop was like that and I was very insecure about getting a new laptop with onboard graphics. But got this one cheap (cheap as in $1200usd, but I'm not from the states and you prolly can buy it there for like $800)
The difference between this and the previous laptop is huge. This one barely turns on the fans. It's silent! That's a huge issue coz if you've owned a laptop you probably know how loud the tiny fans inside can get when they start spinning at 7000rpm. They get louder than a deskop.
So, laptops with any type of dedicated graphic card suck up the battery in like 1hour.
I tested mine by playing a HD video (1280x720) flick, encoded to DivX, ran it without a hitch. Shouldn't be a prob once HD videos become mainstream.
It has Harman-Kardon speakers, that beat a small deskop sound solution I have on one of my computers (logitech z3)
btw for those interested, the motherboard is using intel i945GM chipset.
Higly recommended!
