Most people that buy computers are idiots. I'm no expert, but I can get my way around and I usually refered to as the local "expert" because everyone else is so stupid. So idiots don't want to "fiddle" and its better that they don't.

And, as the Vista betas have shown, and as MS has been saying, Vista won't be optimized to run dual core processors. Throw in the fact that Vista weighs in at 2GB, without all the other basic software that you need to run "Windows" (i.e. anti-viruses, anti-spyware, registry cleaners, etc.), how "fast" do you think your PC will actually be with that hippo running it?
Were do you get your info? In a few years most computerd will be dual cores. Hell quad cores will be out by then. If you have at least 1 Gig of RAM you should be fine. Hell most computers come with that much now.

I'm not trying to jump the gun or anything. I'm just saying: It doesn't hurt to look around now, since the alternatives are real quality now. The brand shouldn't be a reason not to buy.
Linux has always been free yet has never been adopted by the masses. Think about that. And don't say it's because of MS brainwashing because that hasn't stop people from defecting from IE to FireFox.
